  • Charles II of England:
    • In 1662 AD, when Charles II of England married a Portuguese princess Katherine and then he received the island of Bombay as dowry.
    • He immediately gave the island to the East India Company in 1668 AD for 10 pounds per year.
    • Charles II (29th May 1630 – 6th February 1685) who is known as "the Merry Monarch", was king of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
    • He was king of Scotland from 1649 until his deposition in 1651 and the king of England, Scotland, and Ireland from the 1660 Restoration of the monarchy until his death in 1685.
    • He was forced to accept the role of the limited monarch in order to regain the throne and was known for religious tolerance.
    • He assumed the throne after a period of great turmoil in British history.
    • Charles II was popular and was called "The Merry Monarch" because he changed many laws that Cromwell had made and allowed people more freedom to enjoy themselves.

  • Dadra & Nagar Haveli:
    • The history of Dadra and Nagar Haveli before India's medieval period (roughly 11th – 16th century) remains obscure.
    • In 1262, a Rajput invader defeated the local Koli chieftains of the area and became the ruler of Ramnagar, a small state that included Nagar Haveli in its territory.
  • Pumba Island:
    • Pamban Island is famous for its legends rather than its history.
    • The town of Rameshwaram in Pamban is the place where Lord Ram started building the bridge to Sri Lanka to go there and rescue his wife Sita from Ravana. Various commemorations of this event are strewn all over Pamban.
  • Lakshadweep Island:
    • On 1 November 1956, during the reorganization of Indian states, the Lakshadweep islands were separated from Madras and organized into a separate union territory for administrative purposes.
    • The new territory was called Laccadive, Minicoy, and Amindivi Islands before adopting the Lakshadweep name on 1 November 1973.
