An analog signal carries 4 bits in each signal unit. If 1000 signal units are sent per second, then baud rate and bit rate of the signal are ________ and __________.
1. 1000 bauds / sec, 500 bps
2. 2000 bauds / sec, 1000 bps
3. 4000 bauds / sec, 1000 bps

Correct Answer - Option 4 : 1000 bauds / sec, 4000 bps

Concept:

Bit rate is the number of bits transferred per sec. Baud rate is the number of signal elements per second. In analog transmission of digital data, the baud rate is less than or equal to the bit rate.

Explanation:

Given: analog signal carries 4 bits in each signal unit.

Total number of signal units per second = 1000

So, baud rate = number of signal units per second = 1000 bauds /sec

Bit rate = number of signal units × bits in each signal unit

= 1000 × 4

= 4000 bps
