Correct Answer - Option 2 : Jharokha Darshan

The Correct Answer is Jharokha Darshan.

  • Jharokha Darshan was a daily practice to reach out to the public (darshan) on the balcony (jharokha) at the forts and palaces of the medieval king in India.
  • It was an important and direct way to interact face-to-face with the people and was a tradition that the Mughal emperors embraced.
  • The balcony presence in Jharokha Darshan's name also spelled jharokha-i darshan was adopted by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century although it was contrary to Islamic injunctions.
  • It was first observed by Humayun before it was adopted by Akbar as a sunrise ritual.
  • Even the rulers who succeeded Akbar (r.1556–1605 CE) continued the tradition. Jahangir (r.1605–27 CE) and Shah Jahan (r.1628–58 CE) also made punctilious appearances before their subjects.
