Directions: It consists of two statements, one labeled as ‘Statement (I)’ and the other as ‘Statement (II)’. Examine these two statements carefully and select the answer using the code given below:

Statement (I): FIR filters are always stable.

Statement (II): IIR filters require less memory and are less complex.

1. Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true and Statement (II) is the correct explanation of Statement (I)
2. Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true but Statement (II) is not the correct explanation of Statement(I)
3. Statement (I) is true but Statement (II) us false
4. Statement (I) is false but Statement (II) is true

Correct Answer - Option 2 : Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true but Statement (II) is not the correct explanation of Statement(I)

Properties of FIR filter:

  • Impulse Response in of finite duration
  • It is a non-recursive system because there is no feedback path present in the FIR filter.
  • They are always be designed as a linear phase.
  • Stability is guaranteed is the FIR system.
  • In FIR, to obtain the same frequency response as IIR large number of additions & multiplication is reviewed, so the speed is very slow.

Properties of IIR filter:

  • The impulse response is of infinite duration.
  • IIR system is also known as a recursive system because there is a feedback path from output to input.
  • IIR system cannot be designed as a linear phase system.
  • Stability cannot be guaranteed.
  • In the IIR system, less number of multiplication and addition is required, so processing speed is very fast.
