Correct Answer - Option 4 : inductive method

Grammar is the set of rules concerned with the use of words in the context to construct meaningful sentences. There are different kinds of grammar teaching methods in a fashion which makes learning a fruitful process.

Inductive method is a method that makes grammar learning an effective and productive process by:

  • presenting grammar form in natural discourse, then explaining how the form is made and used.
  • promoting divergent and critical thinking and leading-learners from known to unknown or example to formula.
  • giving illustrations in sentences or paragraphs to help students to learn grammatical rules in context and integrated manner.
  • For example, a teacher shows some objects present in the class and asks children to tell their names. She writes their responses on the blackboard and tells that all these names are used for some objects which will be called nouns.

Hence, it could be concluded that the above-mentioned method is the 'Inductive method'.

  • Deductive method is based on deduction. At first, the rules are given and then students are asked to apply these rules to solve more problems. It begins with general premises and through logical argument, comes to a specific conclusion.
  • Direct method is used to teach English/foreign language directly without using the mother tongue. This method builds a direct relationship between words and ideas, experiences and language without any help of the learner’s mother tongue.
  • Incidental method: In this method, grammar is taught incidentally which emphasizes grammatical use of practical laws. The teacher facilitates the students by providing the detailed content of a certain topic to co-relate the incidents and knowledge with real life.
