The given question is followed by two statements; select the most appropriate option that solves the question. Capacity of a solution tank A is 70 % of the capacity of tank B. How many gallons of solution are in tank A and tank B?

Statements:

I) Tank A is 80% full and tank B is 40% full.

II) Tank A if full contains 14,000 gallons of solution.
1. Statement I alone is sufficient.
2. Statement II alone is sufficient.
3. Either statement I or II alone is sufficient.

Correct Answer - Option 4 : Both the statements I and II together are sufficient.

Given,

Capacity of a solution tank A is 70% of the capacity of tank B.

From statement 1: Tank A is 80% full and tank B is 40% full.

Alone with statement 1, we can’t find the gallons of solution in tank A and tank B.

From statement 2: Tank A if full contains 14,000 gallons of solution.

Alone with statement 2, we can't find the gallons of solution in tank A and tank B

Now, combining statement 1 and 2.

Gallons of solution in tank A = 80% of 14000 = 11200 gallons

We know that Solution in tank A is 70% of the capacity of tank B.

∴ Capacity of tank B = 14000/0.7 = 20000 gallons

Gallons of solution in tank B = 40% of 20000 = 8000 gallons

∴ Both the statements I and II together are sufficient.
