  • The India State of Forest Report 2019 released shows an increase of 5,188 square kilometres of forest and tree cover across the country compared to the ISFR 2017.
  • As per ISFR 2019 published by the Forest Survey of India, the forest cover of Jharkhand is 23,611 sq km which is 29.62% of the total geographical area of the State, recording an increase of 58.41 sq km since 2017.
  • The Per capita forest and tree cover in Jharkhand is 0.08 hectares.
  • The state has a geographical area of 79,714 km² and represents 2.42% of the country’s area.
  • Of the total recorded forest area, Reserved Forests comprise 18.58%, Protected Forests 81.28%, and Unclassed Forests 0.14%.
  • The total forest and tree cover recorded together constitutes about 33.21% of the geographical area of the state.
