  • Dharasana Satyagraha was a protest against the British salt tax in colonial India in May 1930.
  • Following the conclusion of the Salt March to Dandi, Mahatma Gandhi chose a non-violent raid of the Dharasana Salt Works in Gujarat as the next protest against British rule.
  • Gandhi Ji Arrested On 21 May 1930, Sarojini Naidu led 2,500 marchers on the Dharasana Salt Works, some 150 miles north of Bombay. 
  • The incident, recorded by American journalist Webb Miller, prompted an international outcry against British policy in India. 

  • About Salt Satyagraha
    • The Salt Satyagraha(12 Mar 1930 – 6 Apr 1930) March or The Dandi March of 1930 as it is popularly known, is a landmark in the history of the Indian freedom struggle.
    • As a part of the Civil Disobedience Movement against the British rule, 80 Satyagrahis led by Mahatma Gandhi marched 241-miles from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad to the coastal village of Dandi and broke the Salt Law imposed by the British.
    • As was the symbolic nature of the event, it inspired millions of Indians to join the freedom struggle and brought worldwide attention to the movement.
    • The Dandi March demonstrated the effectiveness of non-violent civil disobedience as a form of protest.
