Correct Answer - Option 2 : Pascal's law

Concept:

Hooke's law:

  • States that the strain of the material is proportional to the applied stress within the elastic limit of that material.
  • When the elastic materials are stretched, the atoms and molecules deform until stress is applied, and when the stress is removed, they return to their initial state.

Pascal's law:

  • States that, if some pressure is applied at any point of incompressible liquid then the same pressure is transmitted to all the points of liquid and on the walls of the container.

Hydraulic lifts:

  • A hydraulic lift is a device for moving objects using the force created by pressure on a liquid inside a cylinder that moves a piston upward. Incompressible oil is pumped into the cylinder, which forces the piston upward.
  • The principle for hydraulic lifts is based on Pascal's law.
