Concept:

Coefficient of performance of the refrigeration system working on reversed Carnot cycle:

\({\rm{COP}} = \frac{{{\rm{RE}}}}{{{{\rm{W}}_{{\rm{net}}}}}} = \frac{Q}{W} = \frac{{{T_L}}}{{{T_H} - {T_L}}}\)

Unit of refrigerating effect = One tonne of refrigeration

Calculation:

Given:

COP = 2, R.E = 5 kW

\({\rm{COP}} = \frac{{{\rm{RE}}}}{{\rm{W}}} = 2=\frac{5}{W}\)

W = 2.5 kW

COP of a heat pump: 

\(CO{P_{HP}} = \frac{{{T_H}}}{{{T_H} - {T_L}}}\)
