Correct Answer - Option 2 : 414

The correct answer is 414.

  • The 1984 general elections were held after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
    • Voting in Assam and Punjab was postponed till 1985 due to the rebellions. After the death of Indira Gandhi, the country suffered a major setback and thus got a massive victory by voting for Congress.
    • The Congress won 414 of the total 533 seats. TDP became the second-largest party with 30 seats.
    • This was the first time that a regional party came into opposition.
    • Rajiv Gandhi became the new Prime Minister of India.

  • In 2019, The party led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah has secured 303 seats in the 17th Lok Sabha.
  • Meanwhile, Congress, the main opposition party, managed to increase its vote share by only a few votes from 2014, with a final tally of 52 seats.
  • There will be no Leader of the Opposition in the upcoming Lower House for the second time in a row.
