Correct Answer - Option 1 : 55

The logic followed here is:\

  • In one minute, minute hand moves = 360/ 60 = 6º
  • In one hour, hour hand moves = 360/ 12 = 30º
  • In one minute hour hand moves = 30/60 = 1/2º
  • So, the relative distance between both the hands in one minute = 6º - 1/2º =  \(5 {1 \over 2}\)º
  • In other words, in one minute, the minute hand gains  \(5 {1 \over 2}\)º  more than hour hand.
  • In one hour the gain will be  =  \(5 {1 \over 2}\)º × 60 = 330º
  • In other words, the minute hand will gain [ 330/6 = 55] 55 minutes to the hour hand. or the minute hand moves by 55 minutes in an hour.

Hence, '55' is the correct answer.
