Four resistances 5 Ω, 10 Ω, 15 Ω and X (unknown) are connected in the cyclic order so as to form a Wheatstone network. Determine X if the network is balanced.

Data : P = 5 Ω, 

Q = 10 Ω, 

R = 15 Ω

Since the network is balanced,

\(\cfrac PQ\) = \(\cfrac XR\)

∴ \(\cfrac 5{10}\) = \(\cfrac X{15}\)

∴ X = 15 × \(\cfrac 5{10}\) = 7.5 Ω
