  • The National Anthem was first sung on the second day of the annual conference of the Indian National Congress (INC) in Kolkata on December 27, 1911.
  • It was written in (Tatsama) Bengali.

National Anthem

  • 'Jana Gana Mana' is the first stanza of the Bengali chant 'Bharoto Bhagryo Bidhata', penned by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
  • The song  "Jana Gana Mana" was first printed under the title "Bharat Vidhata" in Tattva Bodhini Patrika in January 1912.
  • It takes about 52 seconds for its total completion, while it takes 20 seconds for the first and last lines of the stanza.
  • There is a total of five stanzas in our National Anthem.
  • The Hindi version of the National Anthem was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 24 January 1950.
  • The original composition written by Rabindranath Tagore was translated into Hindi by Abid Ali.
