Correct Answer - Option 4 : Protochordata

The correct answer is Protochordata.

  • Plants are divided into five groups- Thallophytes, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.

  • Bryophytes are the amphibian of the plant kingdom.
    • They have a unique feature as compared to other green plant groups that are their sporophyte is attached to the gametophyte.
    • Bryophytes are the first land inhabitant plants.
    • The ciliated sperms and archegonia are present in bryophytes.
  • Thallophytes is a polyphyletic group of non-motile organisms traditionally described as thalloid plants.
    • They are simple or lower plants.
    • Archegonium is absent in thallophyta.
    • Thallophtes are an abandoned division of kingdom Plantae which includes fungi, algae, lichens, and some kinds of bacteria, bryophytes, and slime molds.
  • Gymnosperms are also known as acrogymnosperms.
    • It is a group of seed-producing plants.
    • It includes conifers, cycads, ginkgo, and gnetophytes.
    • The word gymnosperms in greek means naked seeds because they do not have an outer covering or shell around their seeds.
    • They do not produce flowers i.e they are non-flowering plants and neither do they produce fruits. Its pollination is done by the wind (Anemophilous).
  • Angiosperms are also known as Angiospermae or Magnoliophyta.
    • They are flowering and seed-producing plants.
    • It consists of 64 orders, 416 families, approximately 13,000 known genera, and 3,00,000 known species.
    • Their seeds develop in the ovaries of flowers and are surrounded by a protective fruit.
    • Examples of angiosperms are fruits, vegetables, grains, and flowers.
    • Angiosperms are classified as Monocotyledons (monocots) and Dicotyledons (dicots) where monocots are flowering plants whose seeds contain only one embryonic leaf or cotyledon and dicots are flowering plants whose seeds contain two embryonic leaves or cotyledons.
  • Pteridophytes are known as the Vascular cryptogams because they are the first non-seeded plants to have a vascular system present.
    • They are also called vascular crypto games.
    • They are used for medicinal purposes.
    • They are not completely differentiated into root, stem, and leaves.
  • Hence Protochordata is not included in 5 group.
