Concept:

  • Rh-immunoglobin is given to all Rh-negative mothers.
  • Rh-negative mother is D- negative.
  • If the mother is Rh-negative and the fetus is Rh-positive, it refers to Rh-incompatibility.

Explanation:

  • If the blood type is RhD negative then Anti-D immunoglobulin is administered routinely during the third trimester of pregnancy. 
  • The immunoprophylaxis is given in the following conditions:
    • Abortion
    • Ectopic pregnancy
    • MTP
    • Amniocentesis
    • Abdominal trauma.
