Correct Answer - Option 4 : Spores

Concept:-

  • If the water is unsafe, the water must be boiled to make it safe to drink. Boiling is the safest way to kill disease-causing organisms, including viruses, bacteria and parasites.
  • Boiling is not sterilization and is more accurately referred to as pasteurization.
  • Boiling water kills all bacteria, except that some bacterial spores not commonly associated with the water-borne disease are able to survive boiling conditions (such as Clostridium and Bacillus spores).
  • Clostridium bacteria can survive in boiling water even at 100 °C, that is its boiling point, for a few minutes.
  • This is because its spores can survive even in temperatures of 100 °C.
