Correct Answer - Option 1 : 1.283

Concept:

Void ratio (e):

Void ratio is usually defined as the ratio of the volume of voids to the total volume of soil solid. The void ratio of fine-grained soil is generally higher than that of coarse-grained soil.

\({\rm{e = }}\frac{{{{\rm{V}}_{\rm{v}}}}}{{{{\rm{V}}_{\rm{s}}}}}{\rm{;e}} > 0\)

Porosity(n):

Porosity is defined as the ratio of the volume of voids to the total volume of the soil. It varies between 0 and 1.

\(\eta = \frac{{{V_v}}}{V}\)

The relation between e and n is given by,

 \(e = \frac{\eta }{{1 - \eta }}\)

Calculations:

Given,

Porosity, n = 0.562

The void ratio will be,

\(e = \frac{{0.562}}{{1 - \ 0.562}} = 1.283\)
