Correct Answer - Option 2 : 26

If we summarize the information given in this question,

Since Rita and Monika exchange places, Rita’s new position is the same as Monika’s earlier position. Rita position is 17th from the right end and 10th from the left end.

Number of girls in the row = Position from the right end + position from the left end - 1

Number of girls in the row = 17 + 10 - 1

Number of girls in the row = 26

Hence, "26" is the correct answer.

To find number of students sitting between them.

When the condition is simple:

  • To check for simple condition = Total > (Left rank + Right rank)
  • Formula = Total - (Left rank + Right rank)

When the condition is overlap:

  • To check for overlap condition = Total < (Left rank + Right rank)
  • Formula = [(Left rank + Right rank) - Total] - 2
