Correct Answer - Option 4 : 38

Given:

A batsman has a certain average of runs for 16 innings

In the 17th innings, he makes a score of 102 runs

His average increases = 4

Calculation:

Let the average of runs for 16 innings be A

Then, average of runs for 17 innings = A + 4

Total runs for 16 innings = 16 A

⇒ Total runs for 17 innings = 16A + 102

⇒ 16A + 102/17 = A + 4

⇒ 16A + 102 = 17A + 68

⇒ A = 34

His average after 17th innings = A + 4 = 34 + 4

⇒ 38

∴ His average after 17th innings is 38
