Correct Answer - Option 2 : SMTP

The correct answer is SMTP.

  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP):
    • It is the standard protocol for sending emails across the Internet. Hence, Option 2 is correct.
    • IMAP and POP3 are the Internet mail protocols used for retrieving emails.
    • MIME allows the users to exchange different kinds of data files in an email: audio, video, images, etc.
    • It is used for sending and receiving e-mail between e-mail clients and servers.
    • When an SMTP server receives an e-mail from a mail client, the SMTP server will then check the MX records for the domain in the e-mail address in order to exchange the mail with the remote SMTP server.
    • It will then either process the mail (if it is the MX server) or forward it to the appropriate SMTP server.

HTTP
  • It is an application-layer protocol for transmitting hypermedia documents, such as HTML.
  • It was designed for communication between web browsers and web servers, but it can also be used for other purposes.
Telnet
  • Telnet utility allows users to test connectivity to remote machines and issue commands through the use of a keyboard
Ftp
  • The File Transfer Protocol is a standard communication protocol used for the transfer of computer files from a server to a client on a computer network.
