  • As per Article 108 of the Indian Constitution, the speaker of the Lok-Sabha presides over the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
  • Rajya Sabha
    • It is also known as the Upper House and the Council of States.
    • Article 80 of the Constitution says that the maximum strength of the Rajya Sabha is 250, out of which 12 members are nominated by the President and 238 are representatives of the States and of the two Union Territories.
    • The Fourth Schedule to the Constitution provides for the allocation of seats to the States and Union Territories in Rajya Sabha.
    • The Vice-President of India is the ex-officio Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
  • Lok Sabha 
    • It is also known as Lower House.
    • It was duly constituted for the first time on 17 April 1952.
    • As per the Constitution of India, the maximum strength of the House is 552.
    • Article 84 of the Indian Constitution sets qualifications for being a member of the Lok Sabha.
