Concept:

Principle of planning a building:

The basic principles in planning a building are listed below -

  • Aspect: It concerned with the orientation of the building such that proper ventilation can be achieved.
  • Prospect: It concerned with the view of the house from outside.
  • Privacy: It is important principle while planning a residential building. It is concerned with the protection of the members living in that building.
  • Grouping: It is concerned with the relation of each room with other rooms of the building. 
  • Roominess: It is concerned with making an impression of spaciousness. It can be obtained by getting the maximum benefit from the minimum dimension of a room.
  • Sanitation: It becomes important because the sanitary conditions of the building directly impact on the health of the members living. It is concerned with  proper lighting, ventilation, cleanliness, and other sanitary conveniences.
  • Flexibility: It is concerned with flexibility which means planning the rooms in such a way that though originally designed for a specific purpose, may be used for other purposes also when desired.
  • Economy: The building should be planned such that the minimum cost of construction occurs i.e. within the financial limits of the client.
  • Furniture requirement: During planing a building, the furniture sizes should be considered for the functional utility of the rooms.
  • Lighting and Circulation: Natural and artificial lighting and circulation should be provided in the building while planing it.
