  • Quit India Movement:
    • On 8th August 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave a clarion call to end British rule and launched the Quit India Movement at the session of the All-India Congress Committee in Mumbai.
    • The 'Quit India’ resolution was moved in the Bombay Session of the Congress in the year 1942 by Jawaharlal Nehru.
    • Gandhiji gave the call “Do or Die” in his speech delivered at the Gowalia Tank Maidan, now popularly known as August Kranti Maidan.
    • Aruna Asaf Ali popularly known as the 'Grand Old Lady' of the Independence Movement is known for hoisting the Indian flag at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai during the Quit India Movement.
    • The slogan ‘Quit India’ was coined by Yusuf Meherally, a socialist and trade unionist who also served as Mayor of Mumbai.
    • Meherally had also coined the slogan “Simon Go Back”.

  • Narendra Deo:
    • Acharya Narendra Deva, the patriarch, and doyen of Indian socialism.
    • His education began in Faizabad and continued in Allahabad and Banaras.
    • He graduated from Allahabad University with a law degree and studied law for a while.
    • His scholastic mind, however, was unsatisfied, and in 1921 he began teaching history at Kashi Vidyapeeth. 
    •  He was a historian, archaeologist, religious scholar, philosopher, and cultural critic.
    • His studies covered a wide range of languages, including Hindi, Sanskrit, Prakrit, Pali, German, French, and English.
  • Rajendra Prasad:
    • Rajendra Prasad was born in Zeradai, Siwan district of Bihar on 3 December 1884.
    • After receiving elementary education at home from a tutor, he went to the Chapra District School.
    • He won a scholarship to study at the University of Calcutta and joined the Presidency College in Calcutta.
    • He completed his MA in Economics in 1907.
    • While in college, he was an active social activist and joined the Dawn Society and the Servants of India Society.
    • After his MA, he pursued a career as a teacher in various institutions following which he pursued a law degree.
  • J.B. Kripalani:
    • Kripalani was born in Hyderabad in the Sindh region of present-day Pakistan on 11 November 1888 in an upper-middle-class family.
    • He was educated at Pune’s Fergusson College.
    • He worked as a teacher for a while but later quit that job to join the freedom movement of the country.
    • He was greatly inspired by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi.
    • He took part in the non-cooperation movement of 1920.
    • He also joined Gandhi’s ashrams in Maharashtra and Gujarat to work in the fields of education and social reform.
    • He actively took part in various movements like the civil disobedience movement, Quit India Movement, and so on.
