  • Asoka’s Edicts & Inscriptions refer to a collection of 33 inscriptions on the Pillars of Asoka and cave walls.
  • The ruler Ashoka is mentioned in the form of "Piyadasi and Devanampriyra" in inscriptions. Ashoka is known in the Puranas as Ashok Vardhan.
  • In the Bhabha edict, the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka refers to himself as Piyadassi Raja Magadha (Piyadassi, King of Magadha).
  • The Maski version of Minor Rock Edict No.1 is historically important as it confirmed the association of the title "Devanampriya" with the name "Asoka". 

  • Ashoka was an Indian emperor of the Maurya Dynasty and he ruled from c. 268 to 232 BCE.
  • Samudragupta was a ruler of the Gupta Empire and he reigns from c. 335 to 375 CE.

    • The information available in Eran's inscription.
  • Chandragupta II was also one of the most powerful emperors of the Gupta Empire in northern India and reign from 375 to 415 CE.
    • He destroyed the Saka chieftain Rudrasena III and annexed his kingdom.
  • Skandagupta was a Gupta Emperor of northern India and reign from c. 455 to 467 CE.
    • He defeated Huns and this information is available in the Bhitari Pillar inscription.
    • He issued five gold coins- Archer type, king and queen type, Chhatra type, Lion slayer type, and Horseman type.
