Correct Answer - Option 2 : A is ahead of C but behind D.

Given

Five students A, B, C, D and E stand in a row such that A, C and E are not on the edges, which means A, C and E are standing between B and D.

The arrangement of the students might be:  B/D > A/C/E > C/A/E > E/C/A > D/B

Based on the options

Option 1 : E is ahead of C but behind A, which means A > E > C not mentioned anything about the B and D so it is not sufficient

Option 2 ; A is ahead of C but behind D, which means D > A > C, there is possibility of D > A > C > E > B, it is sufficient to identify the who stands first in the row.

Option 3 : E is exactly in the middle, this option tells only position of E only. So, it is not sufficient

Option 4 : There are 3 students ahead of C, this tells only number of students only but not tells the which students. So, it is not suficient

Hence, "A is ahead of C but behind D" is the correct answer.
