Correct Answer - Option 2 : Insulator

CONCEPT:

Types of material:

CONDUCTOR

INSULATOR

SEMICONDUCTOR

A conductor is a type of material that allows the flow of heat in one or more directions.

An insulator is a type of material that prevents any heat flow from flowing through it.

A semiconductor is a crystal material whose ability to conduct heat rises as its temperature goes up.
It sometimes acts as a conductor and sometimes as an insulator.

For a conductor, conductivity is maximum and resistivity is minimum.

For an insulator, conductivity is minimum and resistivity is maximum.

For a semiconductor, conductivity is less the conductor and more than an insulator, similarly, resistivity is is more than conductor and less than an insulator

Example- iron, copper, etc

Example- wood, soil, etc

Example- silicon, germanium, etc

EXPLANATION:

  • The house will remain warm in winter and cold in summer if it is well insulated.
  • Since soil is an insulator. That's why the house made out of the soil is cold in summer and hot in cold weather.
  • Hence option 2 is correct.
