Given:

The rate of washing cloth in the laundry is S following:

i) up to 5 clothes and less than 8 clothes                         - Rs 20

ii) up to 12 clothes and less than 15 clothes                    - Rs 40

iii) up to 20 clothes                                                           - Rs 42

iv) More than 15 clothes and less than 18 clothes           - Rs 2 discount on each clothes

Calculation:

A man has given 17 clothes.

So, he will pay Rs. 42 for each clothes and get Rs 2 discount on each clothes

⇒ Rs. (42 × 17) - Rs. (17 × 2)

⇒ Rs. (714 - 34)

⇒ Rs. 680

∴ The man will pay Rs. 680 for washing.

Here cloth is more than 15 so we have to subtract the discounted price
