  • The smallest unit of data in a computer is called the bit.
  • The Bit is the acronym of Binary Digit.
  •  A bit has a single binary value, either 0 or 1
  • The data will be transformed to its binary form.
    • 1 byte = 8 bits
    • 1 kilobyte (KB) = 1024 bytes
    • 1 megabyte (MB) = 1024 kilobytes
    • 1 gigabyte (GB) = 1024 megabytes
    • 1 terabyte (TB) = 1024 gigabytes
    • 1 petabyte (PB) = 1024 terabytes

  • Bit (Binary Digit):
    • A binary digit is logical 0 and 1 representing a passive or an active state of a component in an electric circuit.

    • A computer word, like a byte, is a group of a fixed number of bits processed as a unit, which varies from computer to computer but is fixed for each computer.
    • The length of a computer word is called word size or word length.
    • It may be as small as 8 bits or maybe as long as 96 bits.
