Correct Answer - Option 4 : 12 kg

Given:

Original ratio of Sugar and Salt in the mixture is 5 ∶ 6

Amount of Sugar added to the mixture = 500 grams is 0.5 kg

New ratio of Sugar and Salt after adding 500 grams sugar in the mixture is 7 ∶ 8

Calculation:

Let the quantity of Sugar and Salt in the mixture be 5x kg and 6x kg respectively.

According to the question,

(5x + 0.5)/(6x) = 7/8

⇒ 8 × (5x + 0.5) = (6x) × 7

⇒ 8 × (5x) + 8 × (0.5) = 42x

⇒ 40x + 4 = 42x

⇒ 42x - 40x = 4

⇒ 2x = 4

⇒ x = 2

Since, no salt is added in the original mixture.

So, the quantity of salt in the new mixture = The quantity of salt in the original mixture

⇒ 6x

⇒ 6 × 2

⇒ 12 kg

∴ The quantity of salt in the new mixture is 12 kg.
