"Correct Answer - Option 3 : Optical disk memory

Concept:

Mass storage

Mass storage refers to various techniques and devices for storing large amounts of data. The earliest storage devices were punched paper cards, which were used as early as 1804 to control silk-weaving looms. Modern mass storage devices include all types of disk drives and tape drives.

Common types of mass storage are:

  • Solid-State Drive(SSD)
  • Hard drives
  • External Hard drives
  • Optical drives
  • Tape drives
  • RAID storage
  • USB storage
  • Flash memory cards

RAM

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the internal memory of the CPU for storing data, program, and program result.

  • It is a read/write memory which stores data until the machine is working.
  • Access time in RAM is independent of the address, that is, each storage location inside the memory is as easy to reach as other locations and takes the same amount of time.
  • Data in the RAM can be accessed randomly but it is very expensive.
  • It is Volatile memory

RAM is of two types:

  1. Static RAM
  2. Dynamic RAM

Examples: DIMM, RIMM, SO - DIMM, SOO - RIMM

Optical Disk Memory

This uses optical storage tecgniques to read and write data.

  • It is a computer storage disk that stores data digitally and uses laser beams to read and write data.
  • Laser beams are transmitted from laser head mounted on an optical disk drive.

It can store more data than the previous generation of magnetic storage media, and has a relatively longer lifespan. Compact disks (CD), digital versatile/video disks (DVD) and Blu-ray disks are currently the most commonly used forms of optical disks. These disks are generally used to:

  • Distribute software to customers
  • Store large amounts of data such as music, images and videos
  • Transfer data to different computers or devices
  • Back up data from a local machine

Conclusion:

Option 3 is correct.
