The correct answer is Kanauj, Ajanta, Aihole.

  • Kanauj:

    • The ancient name of this place is Kanyakubja or Mahodya (as per Balmiki Ramayana, Mahabharat and Puran).
    • Battle of Kanauj is the most significant battle which was fought between the Mughal emperor Humayun and Afghan Sher Shah Suri.
    • The battle of Kanauj was fought in the year 1540 CE.
    • In the battle of Kannauj, the Afghan soldiers were able to run away from the Mughal army.
    • Humayun ran away from the battlefield.
    • For the next 15 years, Humayun lived like a wanderer.
    • Another famous event of Kanauj:
      • The tripartite struggle for Kanauj was fought between The Palas, The Gurjara-Pratiharas, and the Rashtrakutas.
      • The major cause of this continuous struggle was the desire to possess the city of Kanauj, which was then a symbol of sovereignty.
      • Another cause was the control of the fertile region of the Ganga Valley.

  • Aihole:
    • Aihole has been a part of Hindu mythologies.
    • Currently, It is situated in the Bagalkote district of Karnataka.
    • Once the capital of the early Chalukyan dynasty (6th to 8th centuries), Aihole is a picturesque village on the banks of the Malaprabha river.
    • Aihole is historically famous as the cradle of Hindu temple architecture.
    • There are about 125 temples divided into 22 groups scattered all over the villages and nearby fields.
    • Most of these temples were built between the 6th & 8th centuries and some even earlier.
  • Ajanta:
    • It is located in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra.
    • A set of 29 caves, Ajanta is among the finest examples of some of the earliest Buddhist architecture, cave paintings, and sculptures.
    • These caves comprise Chaitya halls or shrines, dedicated to Lord Buddha and Viharas or monasteries, used by Buddhist monks for meditation and the study of Buddhist teachings.
    • Among the most interesting paintings are the Jataka tales, illustrating diverse stories relating to the previous incarnations of the Buddha as Bodhisattva, a saintly being who is destined to become the Buddha.
