Correct Answer - Option 1 : Rs. 100

Given:

Sujata buys two articles for Rs. 460.

He sells one of them 28% loss and another at 12% gain.

Selling price of both articles = same.

Formula:

If selling price of two articles are same, which are sold at x% loss and other sold at y% gain, then

Cost of first article × (100 – x)/100 = Cost of second article × (100 + y)/100

Calculation:

Let cost of two books be Rs. x and Rs. y respectively

x × (72/100) = y × (112/100)

⇒ x/y = 14/9

⇒ x : y = 14 : 9

⇒ x : y = 14k : 9k

Now,

⇒ 14k + 9k = 460

⇒ 23k = 460

⇒ k = 460/23

⇒ k = 20

∴ Difference in their cost prices of articles = (14 - 9) × 20 = Rs. 100
