Correct Answer - Option 1 : Kurukshetra

The Correct Answer is Kurukshetra.

  • Harsha (Harshavardhana) was an Indian emperor who reigned from 606 to 647 CE in North India.
  • He was a member of the Vardhana dynasty, and the younger brother of Rajyavardhana, a Thanesar king.
  • He was the son of Prabhakaravardhana, who defeated the Alchon Huna invaders. Prabhakar Vardhana was the founder of the Vardhana dynasty, with Thaneswar as his capital.
  • Rajya Vardhana, Prabhakar Vardhana's eldest son, ascended the throne after his father's death in 605. Rajya Vardhana's younger brother was Harsha Vardhana.
  • In many publications, this time of kings from the same line has been referred to as the Vardhana dynasty.
  • As Harsha attempted to extend his Empire into the southern peninsula of India, he was defeated by the south Indian Emperor Pulakeshin II of the Chalukya dynasty in the Battle of Narmada.
  • His biography, Harshacharita, written by Sanskrit poet Banabhatta, mentions Thanesar's defence wall, a moat, and the palace with a two-stories Dhavalagriha.

  • During the 6th and 7th centuries, the Pushyabhuti dynasty, also known as the Vardhana dynasty, ruled parts of northern India.
  • The dynasty reached its pinnacle under Harsha-Vardhana, whose territory stretched from Kamarupa in the east to the Narmada River in the south, covering most of north and north-western India.
  • The dynasty began in Sthanvishvara (modern Thanesar, Haryana), but Harsha eventually moved his capital to Kanyakubja (modern Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh), where he ruled until 647 CE.
