Correct Answer - Option 3 : (a) - (iv), (b) - (i),  (c) - (ii), (d) - (iii)

Concept;

Rayon:

  • Rayon is a synthetic fiber whose properties are similar to that of silk.
  • Rayon is obtained from wood pulp but still a man-made fiber.
  • It has a very shiny appearance and hence called artificial silk.

Thermoplastic:

  • Thermoplastics are known as polymers that can be melted and recast almost indefinitely.
  • They are molten when heated and harden upon cooling.
  • When frozen, however, thermoplastic becomes glass-like and subject to fracture.
  •  These characteristics, which lend the material its name, are reversible, so the material can be reheated, reshaped, and frozen repeatedly. As a result, thermoplastics are mechanically recyclable.
  • Some of the most common types of thermoplastic are polypropylene, polyethylene, polyvinylchloride, polystyrene, Polyethylenetheraphthalate (PET), Teflon, Nylon, PVCs, etc.

Thermosetting plastic.

  • The plastic which keeps its shape and does not soften i.e the plastic which when molded once, can not be softened by heating is called Thermosetting plastic.
  • Thermosetting plastics are synthesized by condensation polymerization and have primary bonds between molecular chains and held together by strong cross-links.
  • Thermosetting plastics have a high melting point and tensile strength as compared to thermoplastics.
  • one of the most common types of thermosetting plastic is Bakelite, Melamine, Polyesters, etc.

Wool

  • Wool is a natural fiber obtained from the fur of sheep, yak, etc.
  • It is the fiber used for making clothes for winter.
  • Acrylic is a type of man-made fiber which is also known as the wool of poor man as it is a cheaper alternative to wool.

Explanation:

From above discussion, we can conclude that the correct match is (a) - (iv), (b) - (i),  (c) - (ii), (d) - (iii)

Artificial Silk

Rayon

Natural fiber

Wool

Thermoplastic

PVC

Thermosetting Plastic

Bakelite
