From I,

x2 - 23x + 90 = 0

⇒ x2 - 18x - 5x + 90 = 0

⇒ x(x - 18) - 5(x - 18) = 0

⇒ (x - 5)(x - 18) = 0

Taking,

⇒ x - 5 = 0 or x - 18 = 0

⇒ x = 5 or x = 18

From II,

y2 - 9y - 52 = 0

⇒ y2 - 13y + 4y - 52 = 0

⇒ y(y - 13) + 4(y - 13) = 0

⇒ (y - 13)(y + 4) = 0

Taking,

⇒ y - 13 = 0 or y + 4 = 0

⇒ y = 13 or y = -4
