Correct Answer - Option 1 : 72

Given:

The difference between the two numbers is 56

When the greater number is divided by the smaller number the quotient and the remainder are 7 and 8 respectively

Formula used:

Dividend = Divisor  Quotient + Reminder

Given:

Let the greater number and the smaller number be x and y respectively

According to question,

x - y = 56      ----(1)

And, x = y × 7 + 8

x - 7y = 8      ----(2)

Subtract (2) from (1), we get

⇒ 6y = 48

⇒ y  = 8

Put value of (y) in (1), we get

⇒ x - 8 = 56

⇒ x = 64.

Now, we have to find the value of x + y

⇒ 64 + 8 = 72.

∴ The sum of these numbers is 72.
