Correct Answer - Option 1 : 114

Given:

The difference between the two numbers is 78.

When a greater number is divided by the smaller number, the quotient and the remainder are 5 and 6 respectively

The formula used:

Dividend = Divisor × Quotient + Reminder.

Calculation:

Let the greater number and smaller number be x and y respectively

According to question,

x - y = 78      ----(1)

x = y × 5 + 6

x - 5y = 6      ----(2)

Subtract (2) from (1), we get

⇒ 4y = 72

⇒ y = 18

Put value of y in (1), we get

x - 18 = 78

⇒ x = 78 + 18

⇒ x = 96

Again, according to question,

x + y = 96 + 18 = 114.

Sum of those numbers is 114.
