The correct answer is (b).

  • Monsoon forests
    • Monsoon forests are found on the western slopes of the Western Ghats.
    • The moist deciduous forests are found in Shiwalik foothills, Bhabar, Tarai, Chhota Nagpur Plateau, the North-eastern Deccan Plateau, and the North-south strip to the east of the Western Ghats.
    • The dry deciduous forests are grown in Central India where rainfall is comparatively less.

  • Hill forests are found in the North and the South.
    • In the North, it is found in the region to the east of Nepal into Arunachal Pradesh, at a height of 1800–3000 meters, receiving a minimum rainfall of 2000 mm.
    • In the South, it is found in parts of the Niligiri Hills, the higher reaches of Kerala.
  • The tidal or mangrove forests are found in the deltas of all major rivers – Ganga – Brahmaputra Delta (the Sunderbans), the deltas of the Mahanadi, the Godavari, the Krishna, and the Kaveri.
    • These areas receive more than 200 cm of annual rainfall.
  • Tropical forests are found in Asia, Australia, Africa, South America, Central America, Mexico and on many of the Pacific Islands.
    • Rainforest trees are quite different from trees of temperate forests. 
    • Most tropical rainforests fall between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
