Correct Answer - Option 1 : 23/28

CONCEPT:

  • If A and B are mutually exclusive events i.e A ∩ B = ϕ, then P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B)

CALCULATION:

Given: E1 and E2 are two mutually exclusive events such that P(E1) = 4/7 and P(E2) = 1/4

Here, we have to find P(E1 ∪ E2)

∵ E1 and E2 are two mutually exclusive events i.e E1 ∩ E2 = ϕ

As we know that, if A and B are mutually exclusive events i.e A ∩ B = ϕ, then P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B)

⇒ P(E1 ∪ E2) = P(E1) + P(E2) = 4/7 + 1/4 = 23/28

Hence, correct option is 1.
