Correct Answer - Option 1 : 280

Given:

A container has tea and coffee in the ratio 3 : 4. 21 litres from this container is drawn and 21 litres of coffee is poured. The new ratio of tea and coffee becomes 111 : 169.

Formula:

Final percentage of a quantity X= (Initial volume of X + added amount of X)/(Initial total volume + added amount)

Calculation:

Suppose the container initially contains 3x and 4x of tea and coffee respectively.

Quantity of tea in container left =(3x – (3/7 × 21)) = 3x - 9

Quantity of coffee in container left =(4x – (4/7 × 21) + 21) = 4x – 12 + 21 = 4x + 9

Ratio = (3x - 9)/( 4x + 9) = 111/169

⇒ 169(3x - 9) = 111(4x + 9)

⇒ 507x – 1521 = 444x + 999

⇒ 63x = 2520

⇒ x = 40

Initial volume = 3x + 4x = 7x = 7 × 40 = 280
