Askot Wild Life Sanctuary

  • The Askot Wild Life Sanctuary is located at Askot, a small hamlet situated some 54 km from the Pithoragarh town in the Pithoragarh district of the Kumaon region Uttarakhand state in India.
  • The Askot Musk Deer Sanctuary was established in 1986.
  • The Askot Musk Deer Sanctuary was created to protect the endangered Musk Deer and its habitat.
  • Perched at an elevation of 1600 meters, Askot Sanctuary has a sprawling area of 600 sq km which is blessed with innumerable species of flora and fauna.
  • Some of the other animal species found in the Ascot Wildlife Sanctuary include Jungle Cat, Bengal Tiger, Himalayan Leopard, Pheasant, Serow, Barking Deer, Civet Cat, Ghoral, and Himalayan Brown Bear.
  • Askot Wildlife Sanctuary is one of India’s most famous wildlife sanctuaries and is rightly known as the ‘Green Paradise of India'.
