Correct Answer - Option 2 : 22.14

Concept:

Sample Mean:

  • A sample is a set of measurements taken from a larger population.
  • The sample mean is simply the average of all the measurements in the sample.
  • If the sample is random, then the sample means can be used to estimate the population mean.

The sample mean is given by

\(̅{x}\ =\ \frac{∑ x_i}{n}\ =\ \frac{x_1+x_2=\dots x_n}{n}\)

Calculation:

Given a set of measurements are

12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 40, 43

Therefore, n = 7

∑x =  12 +13 +14 +16 +17 +40 + 43

⇒ ∑x = 155

Hence, sample mean

\(̅{x}\ =\ \frac{∑ x_i}{n}\ =\ \frac{155}{7}\)

⇒ x̅ = 22.14

Hence, option 2 is correct.
