Correct Answer - Option 4 : Fold mountain

The correct answer is Fold mountains.

  • Fold mountains:
    • Fold mountains are created where two or more of Earth's tectonic plates are pushed together.
    • At these colliding, compressing boundaries, rocks and debris are warped and folded into rocky outcrops, hills, mountains, and entire mountain ranges.
    • Fold mountains are created through a process called orogeny.
    • For example, the Himalayan Mountains in Asia, the Alps in Europe, the Andes in South America, the Rockies in North America, the Urals in Russia.

  • Volcano mountain:
    • Volcanic Mountains are formed when molten rock (magma) deep within the earth, erupts, and piles upon the surface.
    • Ex: Kilimanjaro.
  • Residual or Dissected Mountains:
    • They are formed as a result of erosion of plateaus and high plains by various agents of erosion.
    • Examples: Aravalli.
  • Block Mountains:
    • These are formed when a great block of the earth’s crust may be raised or lowered due to tectonic activities.
    • When the earth’s crust cracks due to tension or compression, faulting takes place.
    • Examples of Block Mountain: Satpura and Vindhya, Nilgiris.
