Correct Answer - Option 3 : Along shorter span

Concept:

One- way slab is a slab that is supported by beams or walls or both on the two opposite sides to carry the load along one direction.

If it is supported on all four sides but the ratio of longer span (l) to shorter span (b) is equal or greater than 2 then it is also considered as one-way slab.

Longer span/Shorter Span > 2

The one-way slab will bend in one direction only i.e. in the direction along its shorter span. Therefore, main reinforcement (cranked bar) is provided along the shorter span and distribution reinforcement (straight bars) in a longer span.

Example: Generally all the Cantilever slabs are one Way slab. Chajja’s and verandahs are a practical example of one way slab.

Additional Information:

Two-way slab is a slab supported by beams on all the four sides/edges and the ratio of longer span (l) to shorter span (b) is less than 2.

The loads are carried by the supports along with both directions.

Main reinforcement (cranked bars) is provided in both sides due to bending occurs on both sides.

Examples: Slabs used for constructing floors of a multi-storied building
