Correct Answer - Option 2 : nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium

  • Fertilisers are chemical substances that are rich in a particular nutrient.
  • Fertilisers are very rich in plant nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus & potassium.
  • Some examples of fertilisers are— urea, ammonium sulphate, superphosphate, potash, NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium).
  • They are used to ensure good vegetative growth (leaves, branches and flowers), giving rise to healthy plants.
  • The use of fertilisers leads to a better yield of crops such as wheat, paddy and maize. But excessive use of fertilisers also makes the soil less fertile.
  • Fertilisers have also become a source of water pollution.

Differences between Fertiliser and Manure

Fertiliser         Manure
A fertiliser is an inorganic salt. Manure is a natural substance obtained by the decomposition of cattle dung, human waste and plant residues.
A fertiliser is prepared in factories. Manure can be prepared in the field.
A fertiliser does not provide any humus to the soil. Manure provides a lot of humus to the soil.
Fertilisers are very rich in plant nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus & potassium. Manure is relatively less rich in plant nutrients
