Correct Answer - Option 4 : Pivotal Joint

Concept :

  • The different types of joints found in a human body are:

Types of Joint

Function

Located At

Ball and Socket Joint

A rounded, ball-like end of one bone fits into a cup-like socket of another bone in a ball-and-socket joint.

Because all movement types are feasible in all directions, this structure allows for the largest range of motion

Also called the 360joint.

Shoulder and Hip Joint

Hinge joint

Hinge joints are similar to door hinges in that they can only move back and forth.

Elbow, Knee Joint, lower jaw

Fixed Joint

Where bones are not flexible, fixed joints, also known as immovable joints, are discovered.

Bones have been fused together in such a way that they are anchored to that component, most typically to construct a fixed structure.

Skull and upper Jaw

Pivot Joint

This joint is made up of one bone that may swivel in a ring formed by another bone.

One bone is tapped into the other in such a way that full rotation is impossible in this sort of joint.

This joint helps in side-to-side and back-to-front movement.

Also known as the rotatory or trochoid joint.

Neck

Gliding Joint

A plane or planar joint is another name for it.

This joint allows two or more round or flat bones to freely move or slide together without rubbing or crushing.

This joint is primarily seen in areas where two bones connect and glide on one another in any direction.

Wrist, palm, ankle, sole

Saddle Joint

Although the saddle joint does not allow for rotation, it does allow for back and forth movement as well as side to side movement.

Explanation:

  • The neck of our body allows movement in two directions - back to front and side.
  • The neck of our body allows movement in two directions - back to front and side to side, thus being an example of Pivotal joint
  • The atlas and axis bones form the joint of our neck.
  • The atlas is the first cervical (neck) vertebra, located directly underneath the head; the axis is the second cervical vertebra,
  • The axis has an odontoid process, on which the atlas rotates around.
  • Hence, the correct answer to this question is - Pivotal joint.
