Correct Answer - Option 2 :  A, B and C

Concept:

Shear resistance in soil occurs due to:

1. Frictional Resistance: Frictional resistance accounts for grain to grain friction and interlocking between particles (structural resistance)

2. Cohesive Resistance: Cohesive resistance is of two types:

  • True cohesion
  • Apparent cohesion

So, shear resistance of the soil occurs due to friction, cohesion and structural resistance.

Note:

True cohesion is on account of cementation, electrostatic/electromagnetic attraction and adhesion whereas apparent cohesion is due to capillary action.
