Correct Answer - Option 4 : FSSAI and State Food Authorities

FSSAI and State Food Authorities are jointly responsible for the implementation and enforcement of FSSA, 2006.

How FSSAI and State Food Authorities coordinate together:

  • FSSAI provides policy intervention through notifications of various food safety regulations and provides direction and coordination at the national level.
  • State/UTs conduct enforcement at the field level to verify compliance by FBOs to food standards.
  • FSSAI provides support in the form of imparting training and the capacity building of the enforcement staff of States/UTs.

  •  FSSAIFSSAI or Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is headquartered in New Delhi. It is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It was founded in August 2011 and is responsible for promoting and protecting public health through supervision and regulation of food safety.
  • FAO: It is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Their goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active healthy lives. It is headquartered in Rome, Italy, and was founded on 16 October 1945.
  • WHO: The headquarters of the World Health Organization is in Geneva, Switzerland. When diplomats met to form the United Nations in 1945, one of the things they discussed was setting up a global health organization. WHO’s Constitution came into force on 7 April 1948. April 7 is celebrated every year as World Health Day.
