Correct Answer - Option 4 : A and B

The correct answer is A and B.

  • Some of the key figures that were part of the Chipko Movement were Dhoom Singh Negi, Bachni Devi, Gaura Devi, and Sudesh Devi.
  • Gandhian activist Sunderlal Bahuguna gave a direction to the movement and his appeal to Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, resulted in the ban on cutting trees.
  • Inspired by Jayaprakash Narayan and the Sarvodaya movement, in the year 1964 Dasholi Gram Swarajya Sangh was set up by Gandhian social worker Chandi Prasad Bhatt in Gopeshwar, with an aim to set up small industries using the resources of the forest.

  • The Chipko movement or chipko Andolan was a forest conservation movement in India.
  • It began in 1973 in Uttarakhand, then a part of Uttar Pradesh (at the foothills of Himalayas), and went on to become a rallying point for many future environmental movements all over the world.
  • It created a precedent for starting nonviolent protests in India.
